Over the past two decades I have been fortunate to work with some of the most successful and influential brands in the world, and with clients and people that continuously inspire and keep pushing me forward. In Reflections I look back at time well spent.
REFLECTIONS #002 – MARKS & SPENCER
Marks & Sparks + NYC + That Winnebago
A few years back I headed up the digital creative team at Marks & Spencer during the re-design and re-launch of their website. As part of the new digital experience we also launched daily publishing to great success, integrating editorial with e-commerce across the customer journey.
One early evening in the autumn of 2014 I found myself stretched out on a sofa in the back of a Winnebago, parked behind Times Square. Our shoot in NYC had just wrapped. I was absolutely exhausted, and so was the team I’d been working with. From memory at least two of them had already fallen asleep with big smiles on their faces. We had just finished a successful week of photography for M&S’ new editorial platform Style & Living.
Over the past two decades I have art directed hundreds of shoots, some probably more memorable than others, but this was certainly one of my favourites. Not only because I had the privilege to work with a very talented team, in a great city, and do what I love. But also because the Winnebago, completely decked out in chrome and white leather, looked like something out of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. It may not have been in the best of taste, but it definitely made us smile and certainly added to the whole experience… ■
